Tom Londsdale is the best I think. His theory is true and SIMPLE! Everything what the dog needs and nothing he doesn't! Check out his webiste: http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ . On the site is also a .pdf with his article "industrial dog food and the damage done" appeared in Nexus Mag. Check it out!

How's the raw feeding going? Any issues or problems?

I've fed RAW for years and one of the best times to be doing so is during hunting season. I just picked up a hundred pounds (probably more) of free venison! Contact your local deer processors (or whatever is available in your area) for scraps, bones, organs, etc - basically anything thats not cut for human sale. Some will charge you a small per pound fee, others will give you whatever they have left as long as you come pick it up. From what I've found around here, if you tell them what you're doing with it and what you do with your dogs, they're usually likely to want to help you and they'll always ask a few questions about your dogs!

Other than that - check your local area for yahoo groups or co-ops for food. I'm a member of a yahoo co-op that supplies raw food at MUCH cheaper prices than local butchers or grocery stores. It's also got a much wider variety of foods to choose from.

Ya know...I had never thought of that...I keep telling Greg he just needs to get out there with his bow and go hunting!

I have a place here where we get chicken backs and organ for dirt cheap...but I'll definitely mention going to a deer processor!

Last year I bought 80 lbs of ground (MBO) venison for $.40/lb (or something cheap like that) and figured I'd see if I could get it again. I called a processor and explained it to him - I told him we usually buy scraps and bones from processors, and asked if he'd be willing to sell me his "left overs". He said I could have whatever scraps I wanted, as long as I came and picked them up. I bought 5 or 6 of the styrofoam coolers and filled them up. It was a 45 minute drive from me, but I got a TON of food so it was worth it.

The guy I went to was very nice. It's family run business and they usually sell their scraps for $2/lb to a company that uses it in their products (commerical dog food, etc). He wouldnt let me pay for anything because he said he'd rather I take it and feed it to our dogs, than someone else take it and resell it to people he didnt know. He said I'm more than welcome to come back anytime, as long as there's deer, I have dog food!

And they LOVE the venison. Its one of those meats that's so good for them, but so hard to find sometimes. Its definitely worth making a few phone calls!

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Saw you were posting links for raw feeding resources. Here's my 2 cents. I have found this site to be very informative on the subject of raw dog food diets http://www.raw-dog-food-diet.com
